Advice for XL customers

The company 'XL Travel' has gone into administration

In relation to the recent announcement regarding XL Travel entering into Administration, the Royal Bank of Scotland Group PLC. offers the below advice and guidance to customers who have placed card transactions with the company.

Customers who have used their credit card to pay for:

  • Flights or accommodation only
If you booked flights directly with XL Airways or if you have an accommodation only booking with Medlife we regret to inform that your booking is not protected by ATOL (Air Travel Organisers' Licensing). You should write to the attention of the 'Chargebacks & Disputes Dept' with a copy of all documents (including e-tickets). Ensure that the Transaction Date and Amount are prominently highlighted. - Chargebacks & Disputes Dept, Cards Customer Services, PO Box 5747, Southend-on-Sea, SS1 9AJ
  • A package deal (i.e. the flight was part of a package deal booked in the UK)

Customers who have used their debit card

  • We regret that the Maestro debit card scheme does not have a process which allows the Bank to recover funds for customers in circumstances where a company has ceased trading. We advise that you should contact the Airlines' Administrators or the CAA's Air Travel Operator's Licence.

Passengers yet to travel

  • All future XLUK tour operator holidays are cancelled and anybody with advanced bookings will not be able to travel and should make a claim for a refund of the booking

Passengers currently abroad

  • If you booked a packaged holiday with XLUK or a flight with Freedom Flights then the Civil Aviation Authorities ATOL Scheme covers you and repatriation flights will have been arranged.
  • If you booked a package holiday with another tour operator BUT used an XL Flight then you are advised to contact the tour operator or in-resort representative regarding travel arrangements back to the United Kingdom.
  • If you bought only a flight from XL Airways, even though you are not covered by the Civil Aviation Authorities ATOL scheme, they will endeavour to bring you home with the minimum of delay, although there will be a fee to cover the costs. You are not obliged to use the CAA arrangements.
